V/A “GOODLIFE VOL.#01” (Goodlife/PIAS)
The first compilation from France's best electro-techno label, with The Hacker, Oxia, Vitalic (Dima) and all the "transalpine" techno crew responsible for setting house and euro-techno dance floors on fire: The French Wave is born!

Today, Goodlife is THE fastest growing French techno label. Founded in Grenoble in 1998 by the formidable trio: Alex Reynaud (manager) / OXIA / The Hacker; and named after the techno-soul classic "Goodlife" by Inner City. Their goal is to "release unrestrained music".

The team
Alexandre Reynaud - likes partying, sport and brings a managerial and human relations touch to the label. Alex cut his commercial teeth working predominantly within the marketing and communications sectors.

Michel Amato, alias The Hacker, began his musical career in the 80's playing with electro-indie-new wave groups; his unchanged trademark "Doc Martens and quiff" look echo these beginnings. Venturing into rave and hardcore techno (via the label XMF), before finally defining his brooding pervasive and potent techno sound inspired by his new wave youth. The last 12 months have seen The Hacker propelled to the forefront of the scene with the release of his album with Miss Kittin on Gigolo.

Olivier Raymond, alias OXIA, traversed the sounds of Funk, Acid Jazz and House before settling with techno in 1992. With partner in crime Stephane Deschezeaux, Oxia was born in 1994 before becoming a solo project in 2000. Another successful partnership with Kiko saw the creation of a record shop and a label under the shared name Ozone. Respected by the English tehno/tech-house scene, he recently produced material for In-Tec (Carl Cox's label), has had multiple "single of the month's" and dates in some of the world's most prestigious clubs.
The label
From its very first releases, GoodLife has become an incontestable reference point for the rest of the International techno scene, thanks to a fusion of electro-retro-acid-new-wave-funky sounds with present-day techno production values - making them less 80's in sound than Gigolo. GoodLife's latest project is a collection of back catalogue material simply entitled: "GoodLife Vol.1", allowing us to rediscover 'classics' from the last four years. As described by Alex Reynaud, "[the releases] are not necessarily quantitative, but always qualitative."

The tracklisting includes such gems as Kiko's "Monique" (undoubtedly the hymn of 'future-disco'); Dima's classic menacing tech-wave remix of The Hacker's "Fadin' Away"; the unparalleled "134" from Oxia; some fine examples of Oxia and The Hacker's teamwork; and techno exploits by Len Faki ("Satisfy"), Anthony ("Spleen Attitude"). To complete the picture, Arno Riva & DJ Speep's "Sundown" brings a classic tech-house feel that is mischievous, original and fresh.
Even though the label was created during a time of techno cynicism and indifference as the "French Touch" wave was in full force, GoodLife has remained insistent and has opened the doors to a far wider audience than just "techno lovers". Times have changed and GoodLife is now sort and lauded by respected house DJs.
To sum up, 'GoodLife Vol.1' is a finely crafted, sincere piece of work that places GoodLife at the front of the queue of the rejuvenated French techno scene, taking the relay from the "French Touch" phenomenon in the international scene.
